Mind-body science pioneer, Esther M. Sternberg, MD's engaging and popular science-for-the-lay-public book, The Balance Within, chronicles the stories behind the science that underpins stress and illness and belief and wellness relationships. Sternberg is research director, Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, Inaugural Andrew Weil Chair for Research in Integrative Medicine, professor of medicine, psychology, architecture, planning, and landscape architecture, and founding director, Institute on Place, Wellbeing, and Performance at the University of Arizona–Tucson. She also serves as associate director for research, UArizona Innovations in Healthy Aging. Formerly a National Institutes of Health senior scientist and section chief, she has authored over 235 scholarly articles and received the US Federal Government's highest awards.
